Do you know how many types of gemstones are found all over the world? And how many types of specs or categories? So let us talk about some such stones that the world has divided into categories.

So probably around 2000 stones are found in the world, some of which are very expensive and some are less. we divided some stones into 2 categories first one is precious and the second one is semi-precious.

So let’s talk about very expensive and precious items:

Precious Stone:

This type of gemstones is very valuable from which very expensive things are made like crowns, necklaces and high-end jewellery. These stones are expensive because they are quite rare, These are some precious stones in demand, such as Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond.

Semi-precious stone: 

This type of gemstones is considered to have less commercial value as compared to precious stones like Emeralds, Rubies etc, however, this type of gemstones is widely used in the beauty and jewellery sector, and this stone comes in various variety of colours and sizes, these are some semiprecious stone in demand, amethyst, topaz, peridot, citrine, aquamarine or green tourmaline etc.

2. Species 

• Minerals – Most stones are made of minerals too and some chemicals are also mixed. You can recognize them by their colour and their hardness. 

• Organic Gemstones – So this type of gemstones is formed when living organisms become fossils. they are a little rare.

• Rocks –  Some rocks are also very rare and beautiful but we cannot consider them as minerals. These stones are formed after cutting and polishing the rocks.

Purpose: 

Stone is used in every industry in the same way, but there are 4 industries in which there is a lot of demand for it.

 Jewellery gemstones:

It is used extensively in jewellery and is used in large quantities for making ornaments and wearable jewellery.

Collection gemstone:

Along with jewellery, it is also in great demand among collectors because some of the gemstones are very rare, so people are very fond of collecting gems.

Astrological gemstones:

And it plays a very important role in astrology. Some astrologers prefer healing crystals or stones so that there can be some change in your life and some of them give you benefits.

Tool & Machines:

And it is used extensively in the machine line as well, in the tools line, some crystals are also used in the tools of many machines.

Cut:

This category was divided into cuts on the gemstones

• Faceted gemstones:

This is the type of gemstones or gemstones that have designs of cuts on their surface which increases their value or along with their shine, their price also becomes higher.

• Cabochon gemstones:

These are the types of gemstones that have cuts as well as finishing of an oval shape, mostly you will get half oval and oval shapes.

• Calibrated gemstones:

In this case, we spent a lot of time taking the gems which seemed to be the pure shape before deciding that all the sides were quite similar.

Transparency:

You can also identify gems by their transparency.

• Transparent:

You can recognize this gemstone by its name. You can identify it by looking across. Because Light can pass through easily from it, as we look at it across easily. Eg.( ruby, sapphire )

• Translucent:

You can identify it by looking at its surface, if you see a blurry image then this is also a good way to identify some stones. Eg.( Jadeite, Moonstone, Carnelian )

• Opaque:

In this type of gemstones, you can’t see inside in fact this will come in a solid colour type of crystal.  Eg.( black Tourmaline, black Garnet, black Star Diopside )
